St Peters
The Group
The group was started in St.Peter’s School on the first Monday of September 1958. The Group Scout Master was W.Arrol, J.Healy Scout Master, with J.Kane and J. Houston, Assistant Scout Masters.
Early in 1959 the Wolf Cub Packs were formed with Miss M,McCaffery and Miss M. Hill in charge.
On the 2nd March 1959 St.Peter’s were officially registered with the Scout Association and became the 30th Paisley 93rd Renfrewshire.
The Cub Pack has continued throughout the years, but the Scout Troop ceased to exist for a number of years and was reformed in 1974 by D.Arthur and J.Duffy. With the Beavers joining when the movement formed this section for 6-8year olds.
Our group is well know in the district and all sections Beavers, Cub and Scout are well represented in all events and completions in our Region and National events..
The Beaver Scouts
This section is for children boys & girls 6-8years old and meets in the Church Hall on a Tuesday 6.30p.m. till 7.30p.m. They runs there own programme and now has badges to help develope and give them a change to make friends and have fun with children of the same age. Our first Beaver Leader was Mrs D. Black and she was with us of many years. After this we had Mrs McClure, Marie Porrelli, and our present Leader Susan Duffy with the help of her asst. Beaver Leaders and Young Explorer Scouts.
The Cub Scout Pack
The Cub Scout Pack meets in StPeter’s Church on a Tuesday 7.30p.m. till 9.15p.m. and are for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 10½years old.
The Cub Pack is run by Akela Elizabeth Crapnell, and assistants Sandra McKay, Mary Porteous , Keiran Ayres and Explorer Scout Lesley Hunter.
The Cub Scouts offer Boys & Girls a wide range of activities and games on a Tuesday evening and are out on visits,camps and trips all year. We were the first Cub Pack to go abroad for our Area and are still take part on these trips. We are the only Cub pack to win both the Spring & Winter leaque at football. The football team has won many honours and had many managers the first was David Jamieson, John O’Donnell and Charlie Johnstone this was before the St.Peter’ Boys Club was formed.
Over the years we have taken part in camps to London,Holland,France and many in Scotland. We offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities hikes long and short and have visited many places in and around Paisley as well as other parts of Britain.
We offer a wide range of badges and activities and are one of the strongest Packs in Paisley.
The Scout Troop
The Scout Trool meet on a Friday evening 7p.m. – 9.30p.m. and caters for boys and girls between 10½ – 14½year of age. The Troop is run by Cathrine Mooney and assistants Douglas Porteous and Andrew Mooney .They offer a varied range of activities at District and national events, which helps them gain badges The Troop enjoy the outdoor life as much as possible withHikes, Camps ect all through the season as well as working for the Main Awards.
